Rhetoric & Comp – Tuesday, January 5th / Wednesday, January 6th

Welcome to 2nd semester!

READ:  Read Aloud –  Also an Octopus by Maggie Tokuda-Hall & Benji Davies

WRITE:  (Use your same notebook & be sure you start a NEW page for each QW. You can use backs of pages, just don’t double-up by putting multiple QWs on the same page.)

  • Quickwrite #1 – Your Hand (trace it and then spend 3 minutes writing about your hand(s) and whatever feels relevant)
  • Quickwrite #2 – “Hands” by Sarah Kay (watch the video and then write for 3 minutes in response, reaction, just thoughts, whatever) Hands Sarah Kay PDF

STUDY:  A recap of last semester + where we’re headed next.  See the slides attached to the GClassroom post if you missed class.

TO DO:  Take the three question survey about WRITE CLUB that is posted on GClassroom TODAY!!  (We will be looking at some of this info together, so be specific and be real.)

UPCOMING:  I’ll see some of you on Thursday (4th hour) and watch for Friday’s check-in instructions & syllabus video.

TO-DO:  Take the End of Semester Survey attached to today’s GClassroom stream.  It counts for attendance and helps Mrs. C plan for the future.

REMINDERS:

  • Spring semester starts Jan. 5th ONLINE.  Be sure to check Skyward and your school email for beginning of semester stuff.  (Note: schedules aren’t finalized right now, so check just the weekend prior to classes starting).

Congrats to my December Grads! And I wish all of you a safe and relaxing break. You deserve it!

MC Lit / English 5 – Wednesday, December 16th

Rhetoric & Comp – Tuesday, December 15th

Final Reading Rate:  Let’s take 10 minutes to read and calculate (in the “upside-down” of your notebook) an estimated reading rate for your current book.  Put your results in the Individual Reading Rate form on today’s GClassroom post and take a moment to think about how & why your rate may differ (or not) from previous times you measured.  Use this sheet FindYourReadingRate (sorry it’s sideways) to make your calculations.

ASSIGNMENT/TO-DO:  Complete the Reader-Writer Survey posted on today’s GClassroom stream.

PAST DUE:  Everything.  But finish up NOTEBOOK TOURS & FALL PORTFOLIOS if needed.  Ask questions if you need to.

UPCOMING:

  • WEDNESDAY will be a final day of OFFICE HOURS which means Mrs. C will be in the zoom all day to answer questions about late submissions and such.
  • THURSDAY we won’t meet live but you’ll check-in for attendance by completing an important course survey about how the semester went, the tech we used, etc.

BOOK RETURN REMINDERS:  Be sure to use a sticky note or paper to indicate YOU – so I know who turned in their books.

  • BUS SEND BACK – Supply bus run TOMORROW 12/15 (last one)
  • EXIT 1 DROPOFF – Only on weekdays from 8am – 3pm (by 12/16 please)
  • HOME PICK-UP – If you have extenuating circumstances that make both other options not possible, please contact Mrs. C to arrange this.

FOR A GREAT PORTFOLIO ALL YOUR PIECES SHOULD:

✅ be YOUR best writing (revise anything you’d like)
✅ be CLEAN and PROOFREAD 
✅ have correct DOCUMENT NAMES that reflect the assignment
✅ be INSIDE a folder named FALL PORTFOLIO (rename our submissions folder)
✅ And you need an intro letter that looks and reads like a letter. 

DEADLINES:

  • NOTEBOOK TOUR due by end of day Friday 12/11
  • FALL PORTFOLIO (w/ grade pitch) due by end of day Sunday 12/13

Quickwrite #27 – Thoughts and Notices about Independent Reading (check your posts on the padlet board and then reflect) + take time to update your “upside down” (what you’ve read, etc.)

PORTFOLIO & NOTEBOOK TOUR WORK:  Sharing an example letter & then time to work, ask questions, get help, etc.  You can find the details on these on Tuesday’s post & at under the Writing Assignments tab. Also find them explained on the videos from the GClassroom stream from Tuesday.
