END OF SEMESTER WRAP-UP- See yesterday’s post.  If you didn’t turn things in at school earlier this week, make-up day is Friday and the office is still open next week from 7:30 – 11am Monday – Wednesday.

 Mrs. C = )

P.S. It’s not too late to submit MG Presentations and/or booktalks on Flipgrid or to take the end-of-semester survey.  Help me plan a better class for next year.

Wednesday, May 13th – ALL CLASSES

Hopefully, this post finds you with your final projects finalized and submitted in Dropbox.  (If not, get to that, I have grades to turn in!)  To those of you that worked and worked despite this stay-at-home, thank you.  You made my job worthwhile.  To those of you that just did the best you could – keep on keepin’ on – I understand.  Maybe we live in a society that stifles this too much – that tells us to bottle up feelings – but know, seniors, I love you all. Really.

QW EXTRA CREDIT INFO:  Show me your notebook entries virtually for bonus points. (Check your class Flipgrid).  KEEP YOUR NOTEBOOKS!  (They are yours.  Put them in a drawer or a closet or something.  You won’t believe how interesting they will be in a few years, when you can revisit your 17-year-old self).  Quickwrite evidence due by end of Thursday 5/14.

IT’S NOT TOO LATE  to turn in booktalks and/or MG Presentations.

VIRTUAL OFFICE HOURS: I will STILL hold these tomorrow if you are running behind and still need to catch up on work.  Stop by with questions if needed.

TURN IN BOOKS:  If you have classroom library books, copies of Hamlet,  or book club reads that you missed turning in, please drop them off at the high school office.  This week is turn in with scheduled times, but they will be open next Monday – Wednesday from 7:30 – 11am, too.  KEEP YOUR NOTEBOOKS!

SURVEY: Please fill out the end of course survey.  You can link on Google classroom or through the email you will get later today (I will be recording in Skyward who has completed the survey & I’d love to get them all back by 5/13).

GRADES: Be patient with your teachers where grades are concerned.  First, they aren’t final until Monday morning 5/18.  Second, teachers have had to make all sorts of adaptations to find ways to record in their gradebooks who is completing work and what is missing and how that impacts your grade, while knowing that performance on new work can’t lower the grade you had previous to remote learning, but it can improve your grade.  So, expect a few ups and downs and know that we are/I am taking the time to get this right.

END OF YEAR WRAP-UP:  I made a video that puts together the concepts we learned this year (or some this semester English 8).  I’d love it if you took the time to check it out and see how you will/can use what you learned in college and beyond.

Tuesday, May 12th – ALL CLASSES

VIRTUAL OFFICE HOURS today from 10a – 12p via zoom (use the May zoom invite – we’ll keep zooming until May 14th).  Stop in if you have questions, want extra feedback, or just want to check in.

Check yesterday’s class specific posts for details on what’s due and how, exactly, to label it, submit it, etc.  And PLEASE fill out the survey.  (I’ll send it again tomorrow to those who haven’t yet filled it out.)

Last project. Due today.  You got this.

❤ Mrs. C = )

P.S. It’s not too late to submit MG Presentations and/or booktalks on Flipgrid!

Locker Clean-Out & Book Return – Senior English Reminders

You should have received word from GCHS about when to report for locker clean-out, book return, yearbook pickup, etc.  Senior returns are Tuesday & Wednesday (there is a specific schedule for when to report based on your last name – please check it).  You’ll need to report to the annex to get started and please wear a mask of some kind.

FOR MRS. C’s ENGLISH, please return the following:

English 8 – any classroom library books (I will send individual reminders, but if you happen to have any stray books, return those too), any BOOK CLUB books you still have.  DO NOT return your notebooks! Those are YOURS – I am NOT collecting them.

Rhetoric & Comp – any classroom library books (I will send individual reminders, but if you happen to have any stray books, return those too), any Hamlet books you still have. DO NOT return your notebooks! Those are YOURS – I am NOT collecting them.

DONATIONS: I have had students ask about donating to the class library.  If you have books that you know you won’t reread, and you don’t have younger siblings who will pick them up, and they will just sit on a shelf until your parent eventually takes them to Goodwill, drop them off when you return books.  BUT you’ll need to put them in a bag and label them for Mrs. Connolly or no one will know what they are for.  (If they are not quite right for the class library of 251, I promise to find them a good home in another class library – I have teacher friends both at GCHS and Coolidge.) Share the magic.

English 8 – Monday, May 11th – IMPT SENIORSWRITE! INFO!!!

DEADLINE: (REPOST) LAST/SENIOR PROJECT – info on the Seniors Write! portfolio style project (remote learning style).  See the handout here SENIORSWRITEeng8 *or on the SPRING2020 tab above and watch a video talk through with flipcode e8mg20 (check the new topic Seniors Write!). This project is due no later than the end of day Tuesday 5/12. (Basically, you write 4 short papers about yourself – one a day and you’re done in four days – or all at once.  Either way, there’s not much left after that). There are tutorials on the Flipgrid about how to make new folder (if you’ve forgotten) and what your SENIORSWRITE2020 folder should look like when it is complete.  Check them out.

IMPORTANT! – YOUR Seniors Write! folder has to be INSIDE the Submissions (or Drafts) folder for Mrs. C to see it.  IF you create a new, free-standing folder, and don’t put it IN the sub folder, then you have to specifically share it with me. Otherwise I CAN’T see it and it will look as if you did not do this project!!  PLEASE name your papers as indicated on the assignment sheet!!  It gets really confusing when you name them just whatever.

NOTE:  This project includes 4 papers: the COVID-19 letter, a “who I am” paper, a theme song paper, and a choose 1 (with 5 choices) – please write them ALL.   No research required.

QW EXTRA CREDIT INFO:  Check out the new topic on Flipgrid e8mg20 to see how you can show me your notebook entries virtually for bonus points.  KEEP YOUR NOTEBOOKS!  (They are yours.  Put them in a drawer or a closet or something.  You won’t believe how interesting they will be in a few years, when you can revisit your 17-year-old self).  Quickwrite evidence due by end of next Thursday 5/14.

Multi-Genre:  Several of you haven’t yet uploaded/recorded MG Presentations on the Flipgrid.  Check out a few of your friend’s projects while you are there.  You’ll find interesting work and amazing creativity.

Survey: Please fill out the end of course survey here:  English 8 Survey & Permission or through the link on Google classroom or through the email you will get later today (I will be recording in Skyward who has completed the survey & I’d love to get them all back by 5/13).

English 8 – Wednesday, May 6th

Quickwrite #30:  Watch the video below and use the song (or video) as inspiration for writing.  If you could “go back,” what would you do over?

Multi-Genre:  I’ll be working through folders today and updating scores and such.  Also, check out the video under MG Reflection in the e8mg20 Flipgrid.  It’s the closing remarks, so to speak, about this project.  The work you’ve done is really amazing – check out the Presentation videos while you are in Flipgrid (and… maybe post your presentation if you haven’t already – I’ll be checking those off in Skyward soon).

P.S. Really.  I can’t believe it’s almost over.  Your final pieces (Rhet-Comp Memory Book & English 8 Seniors Write!) are due May 12th. See the details on yesterday’s posts or on the SPRING2020 Handouts tab above.  After that, it’s a survey, a form and some finishing up.  Oh, and a couple of quickwrites (extra credit for those who send me proof of quickwriting).
