MLA Citation Help – Rhetoric & Comp
If you are confused or just want a deeper understanding of MLA citation, check the videos below.
Citation: Why Multiple Styles? – get behind the “why” we cite and “why” this style for humanites disciplines
MLA Style: In-Text Citations (8th Ed., 2016) – basic in-text citing
Sidenote: For your cited commentary, we read/viewed both print sources and video sources. If the way the piece was published is video (not print), you’ll need to in-text cite using timestamp information instead of page numbers. See below:
Time-based media sources
When creating in-text citations for media that has a runtime, such as a movie or podcast, include the range of hours, minutes and seconds you plan to reference. For example: (00:02:15-00:02:35). (Purdue OWL MLA Style and Formatting Guide)
MLA Style: List of Works Cited (8th Ed., 2016) – works cited details (we’ll look at this next week)
