RLaW: Use the “moves” of effective writers slides to read Only Daughter by Sandra Cisneros (uploaded to Dropbox Practice Docs) and annotate for big moves/small moves.
NEW ASSIGNMENT: Your Choice – expand any quickwrite from your notebook (QW) or write any digital memory book chapter (MB) – submit starting 10/2 and no later than end of day Sunday 10/4

WRITE: Quickwrite #9 – Pick-a-Pic (you choose a picture from the selection on the PDF as inspiration for today’s write)
READ: Read Aloud – Anne Lamott’s “Sh**** First Drafts” from Bird by Bird
STUDY: A lesson in revision/college apps – 3 drafts of 1 app essay – we’ll use this Padlet board: Revision in Motion & talk about what revision IS and ISN’T.
ASSIGNMENT: Read the Scholarly Definitions of Rhetoric (print them out if you’d like/can). Make a notebook page of your 3 FAVORITE definitions listed – with brief explanations on why you chose these three – due by classtime on Thursday 10/1.

Quick Assignment: Using the ENVELOPE template attached to the GClassroom stream as an example, create your own slide/envelope and address it TO yourself at your home address and FROM the school (3148 Fehling Rd.). Save it in your own Drive as LastnameEnvelope and send it to Mrs. C as an GSlide attachment or a PDF. The subject line of your email needs to be ENVELOPE.

WRITE: Quickwrite #5: Indelible – write about an indelible moment.
STUDY:
- Read “Reading as a Writer” by Don Murray from A Writer Teaches Writing.
- Review RLaW concepts introduced earlier
- Read “Cruel as It Is” by Leonard Pitts, Jr. from The Miami Herald (February 2010)
- Work in your new WRITE CLUB groups to RLaW (on the MSWord version of this op-ed in one of your drafts folders)
- Consider/Introduce BIG MOVES / SMALL MOVES
NEW: College Application Essay intro & prompt info. – CHOOSE or BRING a prompt for class on Thursday (Yes, it can be one you’ve been working on).

TODAY – Complete the INDIVIDUAL READING RATE activity & GForm on GClassroom to check-in today. Instructor OFFICE HOURS today from 9 – 12 & 12:30 – 2 (Zoom link on GClassroom). Stop in with questions about the assignment, to get help on platform sign-up/use (Dropbox, Padlet, Flipgrid).
REMINDERS:
- Did you register for SWIC? (I’m working on finding out what we do if you missed the deadline.)
- Read at least 20 minutes – EVERY DAY.
- Apply for a GC library card. (Pick up your real card at the main library and maybe get a FREE book).

WRITE: Quickwrite #4: we’ll watch the video below and then react with a 3 minute in-class notebook write.
STUDY: Return to thinking from Tuesday about “good” writing. We’ll refresh our thoughts on the student papers we read & see what we can learn from quantifying our evaluations: norming out 4s & 1s, what makes a 4 a 4?, why are some evals all over the place? Visit the goodwrite Padlet board here.
CREATE/PRACTICE: Quick intro and practice at giving feedback – we’ll use a sample paper that you gave a 2. Try pointing out at least one thing you like (and why), asking one readerly question, and posing one “what if..” suggestion.
STUDY: Quick lecture – SOME TRUTHS ABOUT WRITING (take notes on the next page in your notebook)
TO DO:
- By end of day Monday 9/14 – Read “The Essayification of Everything” by Christy Wampole & make a notepage (in your notebook) of anything you find particularly relevant or noteworthy.
