Deadline: A full draft of your rap “analysis” paper should be available to Mrs. C in Dropbox by classtime on Tuesday 10/10.

Book talk & Indie read. Work on “rhetoric of rap” papers – song analysis, annotating, thinking rhetorically, writing, etc.
By TOMORROW you should have:
- Determined it’s message
- Annotated the lyrics using RLaW skills & “rapping deconstructed” analysis
- Answered the questions on the BEFORE thought sheet
Be ready to WRITE! Drafts of this paper are due in Dropbox (shared folder with Mrs. C) by class on Tuesday, October 10th.

Book talk & Indie read. Notebook Writing: Take notes on Rapping Deconstructed – vox.com video. Work on annotation of rap song and/or BEFORE sheet questions on your chosen rap song. (On screen teacher-demo of annotation of lyrics – Mos Def “Mathematics”).

Choices & Priorities:
- Finalize your paper (the QW/MB expansion we looked at in group on Monday). Make it teacher-ready, ensure it has a fitting title, and make sure it is in the Dropbox folder you share with Mrs. C by end of school day Monday.
- Look for a rap song (must be “text-rich” and not entirely inappropriate) and bring it to class tomorrow. Print it out or email Mrs. C to be printed. We will be unraveling the “moves” rappers make.
- Check out class blog entries on GCHSClassof’18Blog and see yourself in print. Be sure to check out the links to secondary connections like songs, poems, and videos.

Next steps: Take a good look at your own paper now that you have feedback from others. Reread it and consider the WORKSHOP TIPS and what changes you would make to improve it to a “teacher-ready” level. We’ll work on them on Thursday in class.

Book talk. “Lab” day &/or Indie read. Additional time for work on your essay and/or completing your pre-conference sheet.
Deadline: Expand any quickwrite or notebook writing into a larger piece of writing. (At least a page and a half, typed, double-spaced, MLA style*). Upload this paper into our shared Dropbox folder for Monday (if you didn’t already)
*You can find a Word document with MLA formatting already in place in our shared Dropbox folder. Open it and adapt as needed to type your paper. When you re-save, change the document name to reflect your name and the assignment.
