English 7A – Monday, September 12th

Book talk & Indie read.  Submission #1 info sheet and demonstration. Quickwrite #8:  College plans?  Reading:  college app essay “The Zen of Clams”  Brief presentation:  Tips for writing college app essays.

Deadline:  Upload SUB1 to our shared Dropbox folder (in an MSWord document, MLA formatted) no later than end of day Tuesday 9/13.

A look ahead:  Consider what college essay prompt you will work on for your next writing assignment.  You may bring one you really need to write OR you may choose from the common app essay prompts  (which you can preview here – Common App Essay Prompts 2016-2017 ).   * Note that lab days will be Thursday and/or Friday this week with WRITE CLUB next Monday due to the upcoming panoramic pic & welcome back rally).

English 7A – Friday, September 9th

Friday = Write Club.

Filled out pre-conference sheet, bless, address, & press.

Shhhhh… you do NOT talk about WRITE CLUB.

Deadline:  You will be submitting a “teacher-ready” version of your first paper by the end of day Tuesday 9/13.  Details on submitting will be given on Monday.

English 7A – Thursday, September 8th

Thursday = Lab day.

Work on paper #1 – you’ll need 4 copies (one for each group member) for WRITE CLUB tomorrow.  If you can’t or don’t want to print at home, send your paper as an email attachment to Mrs. C BEFORE CLASSTIME and it will be ready for you.

See previous day for more details on this paper.

Note:  The questions and/or explanations after a memory book “title” (which, incidentally, you may choose to change) are just suggestions and NOT a prompt.  You don’t have to “hit all the marks” like it’s a test question or a constructed response.  Just write an awesome paper.

* IF you will be gone FRIDAY for legitimate reasons, be sure to upload a copy of your draft into our shared Dropbox folder (name it something logical), so I know that you were prepared.         – Mrs. C = )

English 7A – Wednesday, September 7th

Book talk & Indie read.  Quickwrite #7:  “5 Ways to Improve Your _______”  Share a QW outloud with your WRITE CLUB group.  MLA formatting paper-about-a-paper.  Preview of lab expectations.

Meet in lab 268 tomorrow!  (Bring your indie read and plan to work on the draft of paper #1 needed in class on Friday.)

English 7A – Tuesday, September 6th

The Essayification of Everything

Deadline:  Typed draft of paper #1 – either a memory book chapter or a quickwrite expansion – in class this Friday.  (We will be in the lab on Thursday).

Reminder:  If you had trouble with Skyward, the quiz is open until the end of today – get it done!

English 7A – Friday, September 2nd

1st hour only – Vote for Homecoming Court 2016.  Book pass.

Reminders:

  • Skyward Quiz (parts of speech) will open at end of day and remain open until the close of Tuesday night 9/6.  Use your notes, phone a friend, but be sure to take it. (If you can’t get in Skyward, let Mrs. C know on FRIDAY.  No excuses next week!)
  • WRITE CLUB groups will be online (HERE) at end of today.  Check to see who is in your group.  THEN, go to the class blog and read your fellow group member’s reader/writer statements.  COMMENT on each by leaving a response-type commentary (like a conversation, not a “good job” and NOT comments about member’s writing, just about the content.  Be meaningful, but honest).  Note that comments WON’T show up immediately like blog posts; they have to await Mrs. C’s approval.  Comments are due by end of day Monday 9/5.

Skyward Access Problems?

If you need into Skyward and have been locked out, email me as soon as possible (Friday during the day please – I can’t send tech requests over the weekend) and a tech request will be sent to get your password reset.

It is my understanding that once tech resets your skyward, you can use your GCSD9 computer password to log-in to Skyward.  If I find out differently, I will update here.

If you are locked out of school computers in general, I can reset that from a school computer.  THEN I can have your Skyward reset through a tech request.
