ASSIGNMENT/DEADLINE: QW/NB #7 +1 – read an additional essay (available on GClassroom) and complete your own 4 part notepage adding citations when needed + constructing a works cited entry due in your notebook no later than end of day Thursday 1/13

*All the pieces we are reading and taking notes/practicing citing are building to the first paper we will write in a couple of weeks. They will become source options for the paper we’ll write, so don’t neglect them as unimportant.

Then make a notepage where you attempt to answer the questions: what do these pieces have in common? how do they or do they not look like what you expect an essay to be? what features do these pieces of writing have? (We’ll talk about this tomorrow.)

MLA Citation Practice: using “11:20” by Michael Paterniti, practice citing a regular/verbatim quote, a verbatim quote w/ author mention, a paraphrase, a paraphrase w/ author mention, a theoretical quote of something quoted, and a works cited entry.

Quickwrite/Notebook #5: “11:20” by Michael Paterniti (Find the text on GClassroom stream today). Use a “They Say”-Quote-“I Say”-Questions pattern* to create a notebook page that summarizes, pulls a quote, explores your own thoughts/ideas/responses and considers any big questions you might have.

*We’ll be using the notetaking strategy/pattern repeatedly, so get comfy with it.

TO-DO: If you didn’t update the new padlet board, do it!! If you didn’t watch the MLA citations video (and create a notepage that was due Sunday…), do that too.

Quickwrite #4: Losing Ourselves – watch the first 7 minutes of this documentary and then write whatever strikes you (just parts 1 & 2)

DEADLINE/ASSIGNMENT: Watch the MLA Citations Basics video & create a notepage. THIS IS IMPORTANT!! Get it right early so we don’t have to hassle with citation forms all semester. (Seriously, the video is only 12 minutes long). Find the video & the slides as an assignment in GClassroom. Notepage by end of day Sunday 1/9.
