Book talk & Indie read.  Video:  High School Reading.  Quickwrite #2:  “Hands” by Sarah Kay (Create a notebook entry by finding any point that reminds you of something, or someone, or just makes you think and then put those thoughts on the page – or – try pulling a quote or two that you like and copying it down, then using it as a jumping-off point.  You can’t be wrong.  Just keep writing. Book talk & Indie read.  Quickwrite #3:  Read Like a Writer (RLaW)  – “Hands” by Sarah Kay.  Notebook:  taking notes & using sources “Words of the Millenium” w/ 4 part note structure.

4 part notes:

  • Summary  – “They Say”
  • Quote – pull something interesting “verbatim”
  • React/Respond (thoughts, comments, agree, disagree, what surprised you?) – “I Say”
  • Questions – ? ? ?

Deadline:  finish this notepage for tomorrow (we’ll be working with this source in class)

Rhetoric & Comp – Tuesday, January 7th

Book talk & Indie Read.  Quickwrite #2:  “Hands” by Sarah Kay – respond, react, tell a story, create whatever you want.  Trajectory:  recap where we came from, what we’ve learned, and where we are going.  Course syllabus overview.

Loose, general project schedule:

  • January: working with sources & writing cited commentary
  • February: Hamlet and writing rhetorical analysis (in groups)
  • March: analysis / multi-genre start
  • April:  Multi-genre research project work
  • May:  portfolios & memory books
  •  + throughout:  work on mb shorts, notebook writing, craft moves, etc.

With no other days remaining, finals are as scheduled.  Here’s the info. you need to know.

Also:  It is okay to stop by during finals to check out books to read over break 🙂 (unless you know you aren’t returning after break)…  #warriorsread

Bring your NOTEBOOKS & whatever you are currently reading to the final.  We’ll take care of everything else then.

MULTI-CULTURAL LIT

Bring your NOTEBOOKS and whatever you are currently reading to the final.  IF you don’t need to attend the final (missed 4 days or less & have no discipline record), drop your NOTEBOOK off sometimes during finals (and any class library books that you aren’t reading over break).  ONLY drop off your notebook to Mrs. C (1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th hours for sure).

If you still need to work on your writing assignments (need computer access, you can come to the 1st period final to use chromebooks and finalize).

FINAL – We will be watching a video & quickwriting, reading a short text and annotating what you find, and answering reflective questions about your learning this semester.  If you aren’t required to take the final, but choose to, it won’t count if it lowers your grade.

Final Exam:  If you need to take the final (missed more than 4 days and/or have a discipline record this semester).  Thursday 12/18 from 1:10 – 3:10pm (we’ll do the kinds of things we do in class, read, write, & think – no studyguide, no memorizing).
