Quickwrite #15:  TEDTalk responses/commentary – Selfies & Seeing Ourselves by Christina Balch, How to Raise a Black Son in America by Clint Smith, Solution to Gun Violence Found in US History by David Farrell.  MLA Citation practice:  Choose 1 of the transcripts and highlight 2 prominent lines.  Quote 1 and Paraphrase the other with MLA in-text citations following.  Use a timestamp format since these works are published as videos instead of text (author xx:xx).

  • Pick a quote or passage (from target 1 section) – probably 2 or 3 sentences
  • copy it in your notebook verbatim (in quotation marks & note the page #)
  • Why is it significant?
  • How does it fit it? (Who says it and/or when in the story does it happen?  How does it function in the plot or story as a whole?)
  • Why did you choose it?
