Book Talk x 3 & Indie Read w/ Rate calculation. Set an individualized reading goal for this book & then make an effort to read 2 hours per week (this includes the time we read in class).

Read Like a Writer (RLaW) introduction. Take a look at the slides on GClassroom (I’ll share physical copies when we return in-person).

Quickwrite #7: Read the piece “Cruel As It Is, We Somehow Go On” by Leonard Pitts, Jr. and make notes of what RLaW notices you make. You may notice things like intentional repetition, great word choice, imagery, etc. See the annotated example to help guide you.

What is Essay? Read the 3 example essays (yes, these are really essays) on today’s GClassroom stream. Then make a notepage where you attempt to answer the questions: what do these pieces have in common? how do they or do they not look like what you expect an essay to be? what features do these pieces of writing have? (We’ll talk about this tomorrow.)
