Rhetoric & Comp – Tuesday, October 23rd

Book talk & Indie read.  Quickwrite #15: table topics question regarding your independent read.  Study in revision with a look at a student example paper.

Reminder:  Have you been completing quickwrite extras in your notebook?  Oct. 8, Oct. 15, & Oct. 22 since they were last collected.  Be sure to write something substantial, not just a sentence or two about what you did that day (it’s not a diary/journal).  If you want, use the 100 days slide deck, or Pinterest something, or use cartoons or memes to spark new ideas. Quotes from your reading can be inspirational, and so can lyrics from your favorite songs.  Play with genre.  Be original.

Book trailers & Indie read.  Preview & intro of new assignments:  student-led book talks*, quotable mentions (see page tab above), & blog comment by smileys for blogpost #2.

Read aloud After the Fall by Dan Santat & Indie read.  “Lead” by Don Murray.  Quickwrite experiment:  write 2 new leads for an existing piece in your writer’s notebook.  Pre-conference sheet for this Wednesday’s WRITE CLUB (small moves focus).

Deadlines: notebooks collected Friday 10/12 (no exceptions) *If you are in 7th hour and haven’t turned in a notebook – be sure to stop by on Friday!

Updates:

  • Submission #1 should be in your _______’s Submissions folder (that you share with Mrs. C). The document should be named according to protocol on the digital submission sheet.
  • Blogpost #2 should be on the class website already. Make sure it is in the correct category, it has an original title, and your first name last initial is at the bottom of your post. If any of these things are “off,” be sure to leave a comment.
  • You can still improve your college letter score by revising and turning it in again.

Book trailers & Indie read.  RLaW:  Excerpt from Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury – look for small “moves” with a partner.  Issued course textbooks – Everything’s an Argument.

Assign:  Read Chapter 1 and complete 2 post-its (1 a quote that resonates with you & 2 a series of three bulletin points for what is important here).

Book talk & Indie read.  Quickwrite #13:  the conversation you wish you’d never had (a dialogue).  Lab time.

Deadlines:

  • SUB1 in your Submissions folder in Dropbox no later than 11:59pm Monday, Oct. 8th + an audio of YOU reading your paper.
  • Blog #2 post by email due by classtime on Tuesday 10/9.
  • College letter return – you can rewrite if you want an A.  

Sending audio tips:

  • Record however you like – video, video w/ camera NOT on you, audio file, screencast (figure it out)
  • Send it to Mrs. C in an email (NOT Dropbox)
  • If the file is too large, try uploading into your Google Drive & then send Mrs. C permission to access it
