Book talk & Indie read. Building thoughts and sources for a future writing piece while building citations entries (MLA Style).  Quickwrite #6:  “A Solution to Gun Violence Found in US History” – David Farrell Quickwrite #7:  “Selfies and Seeing Ourselves – One Artist’s Look in the Mirror” – Christina Balch

To Do:  Build works cited entries for the two works we read today.

Reminders:

  • SIUE Contest entries to Mrs. C TODAY
  • Xtra post-its or scotch tape for late homework bonus passes by Friday
  • Clean up loose documents in your Dropbox folders this week (don’t delete anything)
  • Read something awesome

Rhetoric & Comp – Tuesday, January 15th

Book talk & Indie read.  Brief intro to read, write, think activities for next few days – building thoughts and sources for a future writing piece while building citations entries (MLA Style).  Quickwrite #4:  “Feminism” from Bad Feminist  by Roxane Gay. Quickwrite #5:  “11:20” from Love and Other Ways of Dying by Michael Paterniti.

To Do:  Build works cited entries for the two works we read today.

Rhetoric & Comp – Friday, January 11th

Book trailers & Indie read.  Data analysis of post-it note reading & writing data.

1st hour – senior meeting

Assignment:  Choose one of the first three quickwrites.  Attempt some MLA citation by adding in-text MLA style citation after the quote you started your piece with.  Then write a work cited entry (again MLA style) for the source.  (You will have to look up some info.)  Use the Purdue OWL for MLA explanation and guidance and search the book sources on google or Easybib for other publishing info.  (This assignment can be done ON the notebook page with your entry.)

Rhetoric & Comp – Friday, May 18th

Indie read.  1st & 2nd hour – course survey.

6th hour – Book totals & book pics 🙂

Deadlines:

  • SPRING PORTFOLIO due no later than 11:59pm Friday 5/18
  • Memory Books due Monday 5/21 firm even if you are absent (& yes, you HAVE to come to the “final”)
  • Turn in classroom library books by Friday 5/18 (unless you make other arrangements with Mrs. C)

Indie read.  “Take With You” – a quick recap of what we’ve learned about writing this year.  Lab day – work on memory books & portfolios.

6th hour – course survey
