Indie Read w/ reading rate calculation & “other” goal setting (not quantity).

STUDY: Rhetorical Analysis – A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift (1729). Recap main points & use of appeals. Read through of a rhetorical analysis of this piece. Note how it points out not just content but the “moves” the writer makes in accomplishing his rhetorical goal.

WRITE CLUB!!

Follow the Write Club procedures Bless, Address, & Press for each group member’s paper. Be sure to give feedback through MSWord in the margins (not just in discussion) that looks for what’s good = ), asks readerly questions ?, and makes suggestions in the form of “what if…” or “maybe try…” If you missed class, check the feedback your group members gave you and be sure to give them feedback too.

TO DO: Make any changes you wish to papers you’ve already written. Revision is always okay – we are constantly learning and observing new things that change the way we think (and write).

READ: “Why We Crave Horror Movies” by Stephen King (1981) & “Afterword: TWD Vol. 2″ by Simon Pegg (2004) (If you missed class you can find these on today’s stream for GClassroom – you’ll need to print one out or get a copy when you return to class).

RLaW: Choose one of the two pieces and annotate it for Read Like a Writer, Big Moves/Small Moves, rhetorical appeals. Note how the author does what he does in the margins.
