Indie read.  Research Paper: lab day for work on research designs (use template on the “Designing your Multi-genre Research” post.

Deadlines:

  • Research design for WRITE CLUB on Friday 3/23
  • SUB#1 revisions (optional) by end of day Sunday 3/25 (if you revise, change the document title by adding RV after SUB#1, and be sure to delete the comments – click the review tab for options).

English 8 – Monday, March 19th

Read aloud:  Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds.  Indie read.  Research Paper: conducting research notes (topics & sources). MG Quickwrite:  3:1 commit to a topic for your research project (added to MG notebooks).

Read aloud:  Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds.  Indie read.   MG Quickwrite:  whatcha thinking/feeling about this mg project? (added to MG notebooks). Multi-genre Research Paper: WRITE CLUB – multi-genre ideas & digital submission details sheet.

3 to 1:  It’s almost time to commit to an idea for your paper/project.  Which one will it be?  Be ready to commit on Monday!

Deadlines:

  • Make any final changes to your DRAFT#4 (based on our conference) by end of day Monday 3/19
  • Multi-genre topic commitment in class Monday 3/19

Read aloud:  Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds.  Indie read.   MG Quickwrite #3 :  personal inventory questions (& added to MG notebooks). Multi-genre Research Paper: exploring ideas – use template* as a guide for 3 ideas (w/ explanations) for tomorrow’s WRITE CLUB.

*Note the template has room for 5 ideas.  You will need 3.

Read aloud:  Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds.  Indie read.  Quickwrite #19:  “Mr. Armstrong” from Ken Burns’ Jazz – notes on sequencing, content, “how.”  Establish general feel for multi-genre.

Upcoming:  Multi-genre assignment, examples, and looking for topics.

Deadlines:

  • “Teacher-ready” DRAFT#4 should be uploaded in shared Dropbox no later than your conference time this week!
  • SEARCH IT! collected in class tomorrow (3/13)

Book talk x 2 & Indie read.  Quickwrite #18:  Argument. Discussion & intro to argument.

Sign-ups for required conferencing on DRAFT#4.
