Book talk & Indie read.  Quickwrite #13: Tea and Consent video, Collected notebooks.  1st Quarter reflection survey.  Collected annotated rap lyrics, before & after sheets.  “Rhetoric of Rap” paper due in Dropbox by end of school day.  Thanks video for Verna Myers.

Book trailers & Indie read.  Video America Is a Stolen Country – BBC PopUp. Read: “The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven” by Sherman Alexie.  Notebook write:  How are the video & story connected?  Find 3 examples of important issues for modern Native Americans on the reservation.

Deadlines:

  • Rap Paper “teacher-ready” version due in Dropbox by end of school day Wednesday 10/18
  • Annotated Lyrics & BEFORE and AFTER sheets will be collected Wednesday in class

Book talk & Indie read w/ rate calculation. Compare with previous rate & consider the implications.  Update your “mission accomplished” page.  Set semester goals 1) quantity & 2) a non-quantity goal that pushes out of your “comfort zone.”  Crash Course w/ John Green – “How and Why We Read” Add #warriorsread shelfies to twitter 🙂

Book talk & Indie read.  Quickwrite #12:  What’s Your Color?  Twitter video (I retweeted it, so check @MrsC_English to rewatch).  Work with “rhetoric of rap” paper – writing group responding practice with teacher example paper.  Fill out “AFTER” sheet for rhetorical analysis.

Deadline:  Your “rhetoric of rap” paper in Dropbox by tomorrow! & Your AFTER sheet complete for class tomorrow.

MC Lit & Rhetoric – Thursday, October 5th

Book recommendation video & Indie read.  “Lab” day for work on “rhetoric of rap” papers.  (There is a new MLA template in your shared Dropbox folder if you need it to get your paper started and/or to access Word online.)

Deadline:  A full draft of your rap “analysis” paper should be available to Mrs. C in Dropbox by classtime on Tuesday 10/10.

Book talk & Indie read.  Work on “rhetoric of rap” papers – song analysis, annotating, thinking rhetorically, writing, etc.

By TOMORROW you should have:

  1. Determined it’s message
  2. Annotated the lyrics using RLaW skills & “rapping deconstructed” analysis
  3. Answered the questions on the BEFORE thought sheet

Be ready to WRITE!  Drafts of this paper are due in Dropbox (shared folder with Mrs. C) by class on Tuesday, October 10th.

Book talk & Indie read.  Notebook Writing:  Take notes on Rapping Deconstructed – vox.com video.  Work on annotation of rap song and/or BEFORE sheet questions on your chosen rap song. (On screen teacher-demo of annotation of lyrics – Mos Def “Mathematics”).

What now?

  1. Determine a message for your song
  2. Annotate the lyrics using RLaW skills
  3. Answer the questions on the BEFORE thought sheet
